 Affirmative Action
I hate affirmative action. Not only does the American government lie about being free of racial prejudice, they encourage it. Here I thought a good way to choose promotions, job positions, etc was on merit and hard work, but no, apparently race, gender, and quotas are more important than giving worthy people what they deserve.

 Re: Affirmative Action
I know! when I was in high school and it was time to apply for college this one girl applied to the same school as her friend, whose black (nothing against her) well, the first girl had a much higher score on the entrance test, yet she was regected while her black friend was accepted! and did you notice how in every state test they give in school they ask what your race/gender is? why do they need to know? so they can make racist statistics?

 Re: Affirmative Action
I think affirmative action could be good if the government reformed it and based it only on social class rather than race that would make people more equal.

 Re: Affirmative Action
Affirmative action is an oxymoron. It was put up as an opposition to racism, but it has to be racist to do its job... what a big fck up that has become.

 Re: Affirmative Action
Living in a politically-correct society, it can be difficult to persuade people to the blatant discriminatory practices of AA, but, yes, I agree with you. It has always been my position that AA, while a good idea in theory, fails miserably when implemented. You hear arguments about how we can use AA to rectify the injustices of the past by granting to groups of people who have traditionally been marginalized by society a little extra help to further their position in society, but at what cost? If you implement a system whereby you choose people based upon their nationality/color of their skin, etc, and not upon their own merit, isn't that just as discriminatory as before? Granted, the racist attitude MAY not be present, but you're still basing decisions on superficial features. I don't see the difference.

 Re: Affirmative Action
It's the biggest crock 'o sh*t ever to be proposed.Give positions to those less qualified because of their race.Who cares if they're less productive or even distructive.Government agencies and health care seem to be doing alot of this where I live and we the people have to put up with the low quality service!
